Brock & Ray Felton

Metal Tech began as the vision of Ray Felton over 4 decades ago.  Ray started the business with minimal resources, but a strong passion for welding and craftsmanship. He learned his trade through years of hands-on experience in millwrighting and welding and believed in the value of quality workmanship and his Faith.

In the early days, Ray worked tirelessly—often pulling double shifts at Union Camp during the day and managing his own machine shop at night. His dedication led to the founding of Gates County Metal Works, which later grew into Metal Tech in 1997 when the company sought to expand its capabilities with an unlimited contracting license.

Under Ray’s leadership, Metal Tech grew from a small shop to a state-of-the-art metal fabrication facility, with several specialized buildings located on 11 acres in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. Metal Tech has buildings & teams dedicated to the following: Parts, Burn Table & Plate Shop, CNC Machine Shop, Fabrication, Sandblasting, Powder Coating, Gear Box Rebuild Shop, Auto Mechanics Shop and various warehouse options.

Metal Tech got its start working with the paper and steel industries – where shutdowns are precisely timed, and maintenance and repairs must be completed on schedule. As a result, the Metal Tech organization understands clearly that in every business, time is money. That’s led to the company’s commitment to providing quality work, performed for clients when they need it, at a reasonable price.

The business expanded its services to include machining, fabricating, welding, and industrial maintenance, while also developing a strong focus on safety. Metal Tech became a Safety STAR site through NC OSHA, marking one of Ray’s proudest accomplishments, as an organization that places a premium on workplace safety.

Ray’s legacy of quality, community involvement, and a “can-do” attitude continues to this day, with a leadership team and employees that remain committed to his values.  Metal Tech does everything possible within reason, to give each customer the services they need in a timely manner and at a reasonable price. The company’s bottom line intention is always to create an experience for each customer they will want to experience again.

Quality workmanship at a reasonable price accomplished in a reasonable amount of time.
